AVM Fritz!Box is a German-made router and modem brand widely deployed across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and parts of Europe. Fritz!Box integrates a DECT base station for cordless phones. Manage handsets and call routing directly from the admin panel.
Fritz!DECT smart plugs and thermostats connect directly to Fritz!Box without a separate hub. Control them via the panel or MyFRITZ! app.
Connect a USB drive to Fritz!Box to create a basic network-attached storage device accessible on your LAN and remotely via MyFRITZ!.
AVM releases regular FRITZ!OS firmware updates with security patches and new features. Updates install automatically or manually via the admin panel.
How to Log In to Fritz!Box
Connect via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The default Wi-Fi credentials are printed on the label on the bottom of the Fritz!Box unit.
In a browser, type http://fritz.box or http://192.168.178.1. Both work from any device on your network.
Unlike most routers, Fritz!Box uses a single password (no username by default). The factory password is printed on the device label — look for "FRITZ!Box-Kennwort" or "Fritz!Box Password". On first login you are prompted to create a new password.
Default Credentials
AVM Fritz!Box uses a unique password per device printed on the label — there is no universal default. Never attempt to guess; the correct password is always on the device sticker or in the box packaging.

FAQ
What is the difference between fritz.box and 192.168.178.1?
Both addresses reach the same Fritz!Box admin panel. fritz.box is a DNS hostname that Fritz!Box serves locally on your network — it is easier to type and remember. 192.168.178.1 is the underlying IP address. If fritz.box does not resolve in your browser, use the IP address instead.
Can I change 192.168.178.1 to a different IP?
Yes. In the Fritz!Box admin panel go to Home Network → Network → Network Settings → IPv4 Addresses and change the IP address. After saving, the Fritz!Box reboots and you must use the new address or fritz.box hostname to access the panel.
